Mr. Markwart,
I have a question.
I believe that I have finally got the design of my bass horn / reflex cabinet complete. I would very much like to post it for anyone to view, but as a designer myself, I understand the rights of a designer. Having read the article in Sound Practices written by John Tucker and yourself, I can see that much effort was invested into the Exemplar Horn and I do not wish to offend you by stealing your work.
So I am asking if I may post my design which very closely resembles the Exemplar bass horn (Please note that I?m not sure that I got it correct either)? If you wish, I could send you a .tif file of my drawing for your inspection. Additionally any comments / corrections would be greatly appreciated, if you do wish to review my design.
Just so it is clear, I wish to post this design without any intention of personal profit, I?m doing it for the Altec Lansing listening community as possible improvement upon the 825/828 design for use with the Altec 515-8G driver.
I will not post my design for the public if either you or Mr. Tucker (though, I do not know how to contact him) feel that my design infringes on the Exemplar Horn.
Lastly, I would like to thank you for your assistance that was supplied some months ago.

I applaud your integrity and your desire to protect the designer's rights! If you want to contact John Tucker you can try [email protected] or check out his website exemplaraudio.com where there is other contact information. I hear he is very busy and hard to get in touch with.

A.L.,
So you believe you have finally gotten the design of your bass horn/reflex cabinet complete, eh? And you call yourself a designer? No self-respecting designer ever declares a design complete.....there's always something to get closer to absolute mathmatical perfection, a response to infintessimally improve, a limitation to reduce by some incredibly small amount, etc., etc. (;~) More data! More data! Are you crazy? It's management that closes the design phase out - never engineering!
Seriously, thanks for being concerned with design issues and sending me the .tif of your design to look at. Boy, it's really changed from the first one I saw where you proposed round horns and a rounded cabinet top design! I kinda liked the looks of the round design. They both look like they will take a lot of time and effort to fabricate.
I talked about your concern with John Tucker, and neither he nor I have any objection to you posting your pesonal design for public viewing - just as long as you don't use the term Exemplar in association with it. Exemplar is a Trade Mark of Exemplar Audio, Everett, WA., and is in active use at this time.

Complete?--- Mark, you are correct, i sometimes get spoiled with where i work, being the only dude it understands the whole fuel system, so i rarely get over ridden. But your right, i'm sure i will never be done playing with this thing. i just needed some help with the whole bass / reflex chamber thing. i now feel that i can build the cabinet. i should be posting the drawing to my company's ftp site sometime next week.
Design Change?--- the round horn was just a little to big for my mill, i would have been required to make it in 2 parts glue / bolt it together. i whould have been required to change the design to 150 Hz to fit, and i lost my warm fuzzy.
Exemplar--- I will do as you ask.
thanks for all your help.
did you see any thing that i did that was just wrong, volume, ports?
